- J.A. PLATTS has been spending a few
days at Howard.
- E.P. SAUNDERS was in Wellsville Monday.
- W.J. GLENN of the Cuba
"Patriot" is very sick with typhoid fever.
- Jennie and Will EATON have returned
from their vacation at Chautauqua.
- Mrs. Horado EATON is very much
indisposed by being confined to her bed.
- John RICHFIELD, of Battle Creek, Mich,
was a caller at this office Monday.
- Mrs. L.W. NILES and children have
returned from their visit in Potter County, Penn.
- John GROVER and Miss Matie POTTER
of Ulysses Penn., were at L.W. NILES over Sunday.
- A farmer by the name of POPE, living on
Crosby Creek was fleeced out of $200 by a couple of three card monte men
last Wednesday.
- Alonzo SISSON was taken suddenly ill
while at the hotel Tuesday forenoon, and as we go to press there seems to be
but little hope of his recovery.
- Edwin CLARK, formerly a resident of
Allegany county, died August 14, at Detroit, Michigan, from injury sustained
sometime since, on the railroad.
- Mrs. Ida F. KENYON and Thomas ELLIS
have returned from the Battle Creek Sanitarium. We understand that they are
much improved in health.
- A.H. LANGWORTHY returned Monday from a
three weeks' sojourn at Silver Lake, also E.P. STEWART who has spent
the most of the vacation there in that vicinity.
- J.G. ALLEN and son have laid a new walk
in front of their store.
- Chas. F. HOUGH was taken sick Monday
forenoon and is confined to his bed.
- Mrs. J.C. GREEN and Mrs. V.A. BAGGS
were visiting friends in Independence last week.
- Charlie MARTIN has gone to Lockhaven,
Penn, where he has engaged to teach for a time.
- Mrs. Thomas PLACE has received from the
Lodge of the A.O.U.W. through M.A. GREEN, recorder of the Lodge at
the Bridge, the $2000 insurance on the life of her deceased husband.
- Ira. B. CRANDALL has a new barn which
is nearing completion on his lot near his residence on Main St.
- Mr. JEFFERY, of Alfred is a guest of
Miss Della GALLOWAY, at East Otto - "Salmanica Republican"
- A.B. BRADLEY of Friendship, while in
attendance at Barnum's Circus at Olean, lost $40 in cash from his pocket.
- P.K. HOLDEN, of Belmont and Geo. A. GREEN
of Andover, are among the postmasters who have recently been removed.
- A.G. CROFOOT and family are again in
our village for a time.
- Samuel WHITFORD and family have
returned from their visit in Wisconsin.
- W.E. MAIN and wife of Madison, Wis, and
E.A. MAIN of Washington have been visiting among relatives in town
during this past week.
- Charles SISSON of Michigan and Henry L.
BABCOCK and family of Westerly, Rhode Island, are in town called here
by the sudden and severe illness of Alonzo SISSON,
- Mrs. Rowland THOMAS, of Hornellsville,
died last Monday evening at the house of Abial THOMAS where she has
been sick for sometime. She leaves a husband and three small children. The
funeral was held at Hornellsville Wednesday at half past two.
- A car load of slate for W.C. BURDICK's
new house is being unloaded at the depot.
- The drillers have got the well at HAMILTON's
down about 160 feet with good indications of water.
- B.F. LANGWORTHY left a lot sheep and
calves in the stock yard at the depot about twenty-four hours last Thursday
and Friday and the calves made doleful music through the night.
- C.W. LEWIS found a fungus Tuesday
morning that measured at the largest circumference four feet and eleven
inches and the smaller circumference was 3 feet ten inches. It was raised on
the farm of J.W. SMITH. If any one can raise a larger one we would
like to see it.
From Little Genesee:
- Miss M. KING of Ceres, was in town
Saturday.
- Mr. & Mrs. Prentice MAXSON, of Clear Lake
Wisconsin, are visiting relatives in this place.
- Sunday evening Prof. J.M. STILLMAN of
Milton Wis., and Miss G.E. SMITH of Scio, gave a concert at the
church.
- W.M. STILLMAN and daughter Cora, of
Friendship were in town a day or two last week.
- The Misses Eva COON, Mary BURDICK
and Ida B. COON leave this week for Alfred University. This will be
Miss Ida's first term there.
