- There is talk of another daily paper in
Hornellsville.
- Charles HOUGH is again at work in the
Publishing House.
- Luin STILLMAN and wife, of Hornellsville, were
at Albert STILLMAN's Saturday and Sunday.
- Miss Maggie LEONARD, of Tonawanda, N.Y. is in
town, the guest of her many friends.
- Arthur SAUNDERS, of Westerly, R.I. commenced
an engagement in the Publishing House today.
- Mr. GARRETT, of Harrison Valley, Pa., was a
guest of Miss Susie HOWELL over Saturday and Sunday.
- During the remodeling of their residence, W.C.
BURDICK and family are occupying rooms at the hotel.
- Jerome POTTER, at Five Corners, is building
himself a new house which will be ready for occupancy before fall.
- People are cautioned against eating beet
greens this year. A small white worm clings to beet tops this season.
- Cuba was represented in our midst by the
presence of Mr. T. CARMODY over Saturday and Sunday, as the guest of Miss
Mae CARTER.
- J.C. GREEN is having a flag storne walk put
down. B.S. BASSETT is also about to do the same, he having the stone on the
ground.
- In the way of building and repairing in the
lower part of the village, Milo B. GREEN has his "upright" up and
Olin EMERSON is re-shingling his home.
- A horse was struck and killed by a freight
train a little west of Alfred station last Friday.
- Dr. COON has fallen into line, and has added
to the beautiful appearance of his grounds by removing the fence from in
front of his house.
- Miss BRAY, of Brooklyn, N.Y. arrived in town
Monday night. She is to spend some little time as the guest of Mrs. C.W.
SMALLEY and family.
- During the severe thunderstorm of Sunday, the
lightening struck a barn just west of the village belonging to Daniel
PERKINS. It split the girt, ran down one of the post, off onto a cross-cut
saw and thence through the floor into the ground. Strange to say the barn
was not set on fire.
- Chas. STEVENS has shown us some strawberries
which are largest yet on record. One of them measured 7 1/4 inches in
circumference one way and 6 the other.
