- Band and Orchestra concert this (Thursday)
evening.
- Wellsville is making great preparations t
celebrate the Fourth.
- A.P. SAUNDERS is building an addition
onto the rear of his house.
- Mrs. Dell WOOD of Andover was in town
last week calling on relatives and friends.
- Prof. Henry W. HAZZEN on "The
Lesson of History," at the Chapel, Wednesday evening June 23rd.
- E.J. DUNHAM, for some time telegraph
operator at Almond has accepted a position as clerk and operator in the
agent's office at Attica.
- Dea. RANDOLPH and Ed. STILLMAN
have frames for their houses up and nearly enclosed and the work is being
pushed rapidly forward.
- The Free Methodists will set up a large tent
on River Street, Hornellsville, on June 24th, and hold services three times
each day at least for one week "if the Lord wills." A number of
able ministers from abroad will be present to preach the Word. All are
invited.
- Mrs. BURLINGAME, residing at West
Almond attempted suicide recently, first by shooting herself in which she
was foiled, but afterwards hung herself. She was discovered however, and cut
down, and at last account. was alive. She is the daughter of Oliver DEAN an
old resident of West Almond. Family troubles are the alleged cause.
- Will COATES is the last lucky man. It
is a girl.
- Miss Corabelle CRANDALL arrived in town
this noon.
- Give the boys a lift by attending the concert
to-night.
- Sheffield BASSETT has begun an
apprenticeship on the Sun.
- Mrs. Wm CRANSION of Little Genesee, has
been visiting in town for a few days.
- The University Band is to give a lawn festival
in front of the Ladies Hall, next Tuesday evening.
- At the concert this (Thursday) evening, Miss
Della NINEN, contralto and A.E. BROWN, flutiest, of
Hornelsville, will appear in several selections.
- Richard S. SCOTT, the teller of the
Manhattan banking company of New York, has gone to Canada with $160,000
borrowed from the company's vault.
- Miss Ellen ELDRED, of Milford, N.Y.,
delivered a temperance address, from personal experience, at the church,
last Monday evening. She was greeted by a very small audience.
- During a game of base-ball at Canisteo
recently between rival juveniles of Hornellsville and Canisteo, a little boy
named Jonnie CONLON of the latter place, had his skull
fractured by a club slipping. Surgical aid was promptly rendered by Dr. ELLISON,
and it is hoped that the lad may recover.
- Last Friday as Dea. BURDICK was at work on the
house of Ed STILLMAN, he fell from the scaffold to the ground, a distance of
eighteen feet. He was also struck by a plank, which fell from the scaffold.
Although no bones were broken he received some quite severe bruises.
